Fish4Wales Review 2007

In 2007 Team Fish4Wales GOT Baits took part in the WFCA interclubs league, Rolfs Leagues and The Welsh National. Fish4Wales also had its own club match program with a spring, summer, autumn, evening series, pairs trophy, saturday series, divisional championship, May Festival (2 Days), Open Champion and Club Champion.

Spring 2007
The first series of 2007 was the Spring Series fished between January and March. The venues were Port Talbot Docks, Sylen, Whitesprings Match Lake, Nine Oaks, Springwater Lakes and Bob's Lake. The ever consistant and 2006 Club Champion Brian Bevan won the series by 1 point from Keith Fellowes with Geoff Walker a single point behind him in 3rd place. Last year's Club Champion runner up Nick Williams finishing way down in 6th place. Junior Champion was Welsh International Ryan Hughes.

Whitesprings Saturday Series
The Saturday Series was fished on 5 of the 6 lakes at Whitesprings during march and april. Once again Brian Bevan won the series and Keith Fellowes was 2nd with John Hopkins this time taking 3rd place. Fish4Wales founder and owner still not showing any real form finished in 5th place behind Paul Blackmore in 4th. Although Nick only fished 3 of the 5 matches so there was a possibility the hardened matchman might yet make a comeback. Junior Champion was Calvin Hughes with Rob Hollidge 2nd and Ryan Hughes 3rd.

Summer 2007
The summer series arrived and Nick Williams started to fire on all cyclinders. The summer series was fished on these venues Port Talbot Dock, Sylen, Whitesprings Old Canal and Match Lakes. This time the winner was Nick Williams, Brian Bevan was 2nd and Keith Fellowes 3rd. Junior winner was Ryan Hughes, Luke Bamford 2nd and Calvin Hughes 3rd.
Monday Evening Series
The Monday evening Series was fished at Whitesprings and Sylen and was to see Paul Blackmore raise his game with a couple of noteable wins at Sylen. This years series also seeing the 3hr match record at sylen broken twice in the same match. Nick Williams beating Malc Doyles 78lb with a carp net of 87lb including a 13lb 8oz specimen only to be beaten by Brian Bevan with a brilliant 98lb 8oz and new Sylen record. Not to be out done Nick then returned the F4W 3hr Match Record of 104lb 10oz from the Match Lake at Whitesprings in the same series. Brian Bevan narrowly won the series from Nick Williams with Paul Blackmore taking 3rd.
F4W May Festival 2007
The May Festival was held at Oaktree Fishery in Devon over 2 days although many of us were camped there for the whole week. We were joined by our northern members Kevin Williams and Martin Churchill, although the hot weather spoilt the fishing with many carp more interested in spawning a good time was had by all with many great memories and great companionship. Winner of the two day festival was Kevin Williams with Keith Fellowes 2nd and Brian Bevan 3rd.

Team Events
The summer also saw the F4W Team in action with the WFCA Clubs League and the Rolfs League. The Team did not enjoy any glory this year failing to finish in the top 3 of either league but was not all bad. There were personal bests for anglers at Rolfs for Keith and Ryan who would later break those personal bests on the match lake at Whitesprings. Nick Williams managed at last to break the ton at rolfs and returned 3 100+ weights during the series the best being 115lb 12oz.
The WFCA South West Clubs League was the closest in history with just 6 points between 4th and 1st place Porthcawl won with 72 points, Skewen 2nd with 70 points, Brynmill 3rd with 67 points and F4W 4th with 66 points. A good performance by F4W with an almost perfect result at home on Sylen scoring 23 out of a maximum 25pts. Thanks to all who fished for F4W this year, Nick Williams (Captain), Brian Bevan, Keith Fellowes, Paul Blackmore, John Hopkins, Jeff Hollidge, Mal Hawkins, Matt Roberts, Ryan Hughes, Tony Wale, Geoff Walker, John Griffiths, Robin Darker.
In the Junior Welsh National F4W's Luke Bamford won the 15 - 21 age group with F4W's Calvin Hughes coming 3rd in the 12-15 yr age group well done to both flying the flag for F4W.

The Welsh National
September saw the Team in action at the Welsh National on the Chester Canal at backford. F4W was the only south wales team represented, we did not fair well against our northern counterparts on their home water but did manage to avoid being last at least, well done to all that took part.
Autumn Series
The F4W autumn series saw Nick continue his run of form and by the end of the series was leading the championship, division and the wining the series. The matches were fished at Bobs Lake, Springwater lakes, Sylen, Whitesprings Old Canal & Match Lake, Port Talbot Docks. Nick Williams won the series with Tony Wale 2nd and Brian Bevan 3rd. With the Autumn Series being the last of the F4W match championship match calendar Nick was also crowned club champion with Keith Fellowes 2nd and Brian Bevan 3rd. Junior Club Champion was Ryan Hughes, 2nd was Calvin Hughes and 3rd Luke Bamford.

Winter 2007
October say the introduction of a new Competition sponsored by Mark Henness of Fast Forward Distribution. The FF Cup at Celtic Lakes in Lampeter. The 1st match was a sell out with Kevin Williams taking 1st place, Peter Henness 2nd and Nick Williams 3rd. With the success of the first two of these matches they will now be incorporated into the F4W 2008 calendar and championship. The second match was held in November with Brian Bevan winning, Keith Fellowes 2nd and John Charlesworth 3rd. The F4W Pairs Trophy was won by Kevin Williams & John Charlesworth, 2nd Nick Williams & Martin Churchill, 3rd Mark Henness & Paul Blackmore.
The 2007 season has been well attended and we look forward to seeing you all in 2008 when it all starts again.
